Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To extend students' knowledge of the key concepts required for the electronic systems design process, from design to manufacture. To further consolidate understanding of the techniques required for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and manufacture, extending the practical experience of the students into the implementation of new designs onto custom PCBs.. To gain further experience in designing PCB circuit boards and selecting the correct components to achieve a specification. To develop skills in using design tools and then implementing a design, and finally testing it in the laboratory.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit students will be able to:
* Design a PCB containing a high density surface mount integrated circuit
* Create a Complete Design package for external manufacture of a PCB
* Complete the construction and assembly of the PCB circuit design
* Test the completed PCB design

Skills:
Practical soldering and electronic construction; PCB manufacture using a milling machine; basic electronic circuit testing and debugging; electronic design automation tools for PCB circuit design (including schematic capture, PCB Layout and Circuit Simulation). All these skills are taught, facilitated and assessed.

Content:
Design Automation techniques for PCB design, Implementation of PCB design, Track analysis, layout optimization, advanced component selection, EMC considerations, packaging, thermal management.
