Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
The aims of this unit are for students to gain experience of living and studying in a University outside the UK and to develop the appropriate personal and linguistic skills, in addition to developing their knowledge and understanding of physics and mathematics.

Learning Outcomes:
While taking this unit the student should:
* demonstrate enhanced knowledge and understanding of physics and mathematics at an appropriate level;
* develop their ability to work and interact effectively in an environment in which cultural norms and ways of operating may be very different from those previously familiar;
* demonstrate good oral communication and presentation skills, including making a poster presentation at the departmental placement conference on their experiences;
* in the case of students attending universities in countries whose language is not English, improve their knowledge of the host language by attending classes therein;
* in the case of students attending lectures in a language other than English, develop the ability to operate at a high scientific level in the language of the country concerned.

Skills:
Written Communication T/F A, (Spoken Communication T/F A), Numeracy T/F A, (Data Acquisition, Handling, and Analysis T/F A), Information Technology T/F A, Problem Solving T/F A, (Working as part of a group T/F A), (Practical laboratory skills T/F A), (Project planning/management T/F A).

Content:
It is assumed that the student will study courses equivalent to 60 University of Bath credits. Details of these are necessarily left to negotiation between the overseas university, the student and the Bath Director of Studies, but a sample study programme would typically include work in physics and mathematics. It may also be appropriate to include management, languages, and one or two units in areas more related to the culture of the country in which the student is working.
