Description: Aims:
The aim of this course is to extend beyond the basic history survey undertaken in the first year and to give the students the opportunity to participate in the research and presentation of material. A period from 1900 to the present day is analysed according to the most significant work of 40 key architects.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of important movements and positions that have affected the design of a number of key buildings in the period under consideration: they will demonstrate elementary analytical appreciation of this material and the necessary communication skills, in presenting as part of a public exhibition.

Skills:
Simple research from set books; digestion and marshalling of facts and argumentation; presentation of findings in the form of an illustrated essay and an individual component of a collective exhibition.

Content:
Each week students will attend a lecture that will identify, discuss and position relative to one another key buildings of the 20th century. This is followed up by an individual essay submission and exhibition panel on one key building.
