Description: Aims:
This unit is aimed at students interested in understanding the contribution of plant biotechnology to agricultural systems and their environmental implications.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this unit you will be able to:
* Examine the role that biotechnology and recombinant DNA techniques play in the development of novel plants and crop production methods;
* Explore the applications of plant biotechnology in a range of crop production and protection situations;
* Present a research seminar that critically evaluate the socio-economic impact of plant biotechnology to agricultural and natural ecosystems.

Content:
Topics will include techniques and targets of plant genetic modification, applications of plant genetic engineering in crop production and protection, socio-economic impact of plant biotechnology to agricultural systems and natural ecosystems.
