Description: Aims:
This unit aims to:
* develop the technical, management and teamworking skills necessary for the successful development of a multidisciplinary software project.
* build on concepts taught within Computing as a Science and Engineering Discipline.
* provide a systems-based understanding of data and information, data modelling, storage, access, retrieval and protection.
* build upon the fundamental concepts of networking and prepare students for networking terminology and concepts they may meet on placement.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit the students will be able to:
1. To apply background research of scientific literature AND software state of the art in order to propose a novel interactive system.
2. To deploy appropriate software engineering methods and skills to one full design cycle of an interactive software product, from empirical requirements gathering, through sketching and design, through implementation and testing to empirical and analytic end-user evaluation.
3. To critically appraise, choose and utilize appropriate software in the building of web-based or mobile-based interactive software.
4. To deploy project management tools so as to coordinate the activities of a small development team, to manage time-critical software development, including the production of written report deliverables and to manage the social issues that arise from division of labour and coordination.
5. To plan and conduct an appropriate evaluation of an interactive system, incorporating both analytic and empirical techniques.
6. To understand ethical and legal frameworks relating to data ownership, research with human participants and public deployment of interactive systems.
7. To present proposals and progress reports in written form, and to present a system with video- and slide- supported spoken presentation.
