Description: Aims:
This unit will ensure that students are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary for the development of an understanding of the key factors that contribute to identifying and developing talented athletes in a range of sports.

Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this unit students should be able to:
* Investigate the comparative nature of talent identification in Australia, UK, USA and Europe;
* Identify key performance indicators in a range of sports;
* Demonstrate an understanding of the physiological, psychological, body compositional and genetic factors that influence sport performance;
* Acquire an understanding of the maturation process and implications for adolescent athletes;
* Acquire an understanding of long term athlete development models.

Skills:
Critical thinking; research skills, presentation skills.

Introduction to Talent ID principles - Physical and physiological predictors.
Psychological predictors
Sociological predictors
Genetics and the nature, nurture dualism
Current talent ID schemes
Worldwide perspectives and contemporary issues.
