Description: Aims:
To familiarise the student with the principles of measurement required in experimental pharmacology; to introduce the skills required for analysing and reporting scientific information in written reports.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* Perform appropriate dilutions of drug solutions;
* Set up simple tissues for measurement of physiological responses;
* Carry out standard pharmacological assays;
* Analyse continuous and quantal data;
* Report data in scientific journal style.

Content:
The topics in this unit include basic techniques and recording equipment; molarities; dose-response curves using in vitro preparations; group work on preparing and giving short oral presentations on a scientific theme.
