Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To ensure students meet both the Standards of Proficiency (HCPC) and Professional Capabilities Framework (TCSW) in relation to qualifying social work practice.
For students to demonstrate a thorough, critical analysis and evaluation of their own practice and professional competence.
The aim is that the assigment will demonstrate students' readiness to work as a qualified, registered social work professional and as such will aim to show students' knowledge and understanding of all domains of the PCF 1. Professionalism, 2. Values & Ethics, 3. Recognising Diversity, 4. Rights, Justice & Economic Wellbeing, 5. Knowledge, 6. Critical Reflection & Analysis, 7. Intervention & Skills, 8. Contexts and Organisations, 9. Professional Leadership.

Learning Outcomes:
1. That students can demonstrate that they are able to make choices about forms and strategies for intervention that are soundly based on the best available evidence and consistent with TCSW social work core values and HCPC ethical standards.
2. That students demonstrate their ability to work with service users in compliance with the standards set for practitioners by HCPC code for social work practice.
3. That students are able to choose from a range of social work methods and apply their choices reflectively, critically and appropriately.
4. That students are able to show that they are able to call on a range of skills in direct work that are appropriate to the circumstances.
5. That students are able to locate, understand and critically apply research findings to their practice.
6. That students are able to reflect critically on their practice and to modify and develop their knowledge and skills in the light of their reflection.
7. That students are able to communicate their ideas and arguments in a way that is accessible, coherent and appropriate to the standards of formal expression required of a qualifying social worker.

By the end of the unit students will be able to demonstrate that they possess the following skills:

(All of these skills are taught, facilitated and assessed)

Content:
There are two briefing talks during recall days. The remaining input comes in the form of two individual tutorials with the student's tutor.
Students must draw on practice experience from all three practice placements and may also draw on their experience more widely
The central dynamic of the assignment is an account of the student's professional development from the start of their training to the point of nearing qualification.
The assignment should focus on key moments in the student's experience that demonstrates their progress towards professional competence.
As well as demonstrating their capacity to reflect on practice and to learn from their experience, the assignment should include evidence of students' knowledge and understanding of:
* fundamental social structures and processes (such as. poverty and discrimination).
* key psychological processes (such as ageing, psycho-social development).
* the legislative and policy context of contemporary social work in the UK.
* the role of research in contemporary practice.
