Requisites:
Aims: The aim of the unit is to introduce the student to the design and manufacturing process of a robotic system. The unit will provide a broad understanding of mechanism and component design integrated with actuation and sensing. Design of robotics system from concept to implementation working as a team and individually.

Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit the student should be able to:
* Produce and interpret designs for robotic systems;
* Produce engineering sketches for both electrical and mechanical systems;
* Select the appropriate manufacturing processes such as machining, forming and joining, and the heat treatment of metals.
* Select from a range of traditional manufacturing processes for electrical and mechanical designs in robotics.

Content: The unit will include introducing mechanism design; manufacturing processes and electronic systems such as, micro-controller development boards, motors, actuators, servos, sensor prototyping modules.
The integration of electromechanical systems will be illustrated using robotic/electronic consumer examples.
