Requisites:
Description: Aims:
1. To give each student the experience of real engineering design situation as part of a group.
2. To understand the socio-economic impact of engineering design
3. To develop an awareness of the contribution of the engineer, whether in design, research and development or manufacture, in the context of securing broad commercial goals of a company.
4. To introduce the students to the issues associated with entrepreneurship.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit the students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the business and entrepreneurial aspects of engineering.
2. Work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Skills:
Problem solving; numeracy; written communication; oral communication; working as part of a group; leadership. Taught, facilitated and tested.

Content:
Business lectures. Case studies. Project engineering. Group design study to comprise elements of the following: capture of user needs analysis, definition of specifications, technical and commercial feasibility.
