Aims: To provide students with an understanding of international trade and market development and their implications on both nations and companies.

Learning Outcomes: Students should have a theoretical understanding of the motivations for and implications of trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) at both country and firm levels.
Appreciate the process involved with trading activity and how firms may execute FDI.
Be able to rationalise why and how certain aspects of the value chain may be located in overseas markets and the balance of considerations that need to be taken into account when doing so.

Content: Theories of international trade and foreign direct investment (FDI). The political economy of trade and FDI, implications of regional economic integration on trade and investment activity. Entry mode choice, international business operations.
