You will be supported throughout your PhD from the moment you accept your offer with us.
You can apply to SAMBa from 1 October each year. Apply early as the application process is competitive and we have limited places.
Gain the advanced skills and experience needed to apply for competitive PhD programmes around the UK and overseas.
We support PhD students to deliver multidisciplinary research, often in collaboration with external partners. Research ranges from modelling of data, to investigating fundamental movements of particles, to applying mathematics to real world phenomena.
You'll get many exciting opportunities to expand your skillset and experience through participating in workshops, mentoring other students and going abroad.
Students in SAMBa are undertaking a range of exciting research projects from across the spectrum of statistical applied mathematics.
Diversity is an essential component of SAMBa's success and enables us to deliver the best research and training experience.
We organise workshops involving PhD students, academics and external collaborators, to formulate challenges into mathematical problems.
We have kick-started a wealth of exciting research projects undertaken with industrial partners.

We work with potential supervisors from the Department and across the University to deliver a successful Centre.
We are academic staff from the Department of Mathematical Sciences who may be available to supervise your PhD project as your lead supervisor.
We are academic staff across the University who may be available to supervise your PhD project as your second or third supervisor.
We are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). We also have generous funding from the University of Bath and a number of partner organisations.
We offer a four-year doctoral training programme in statistical applied mathematics. Students undertake rigorous research in a world-class environment and become leading problem solvers, able to work flexibly across disciplines.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded into our ethos.
