SUPERGEN Theme Day for UK-SHEC

The United Kingdom Sustainable Hydrogen Energy Consortium (UK-SHEC) is funded by EPSRC and is one of a series of energy research projects supported by the EPSRC's Sustainable Power Generation and Supply initiative ( SUPERGEN ). UK-SHEC aims, via high-impact fundamental and applied research in science, engineering and socio-economics, to acquire knowledge and understanding of, and to guide and inform the use and integration of, sustainable hydrogen energy systems, nationally and internationally, and in partnership with industry, business, policymakers and the public.

Phase 1 of UK-SHEC was established in 2003 and was completed in 2007. In July 2007 the Consortium was awarded a further £5.97M funding from the EPSRC to continue and further progress their programme of work (UK-SHEC Phase 2) until 2011. For further information and details of progress throughout Phase 2 please visit the UK-SHEC website.

The Theme Day was held in Manchester on 27 November and aimed to look at the energy research acievements and successes of the SUPERGEN programme. The theme day also aims to provide direct evidentiary input to the International Review of the Energy Programme that will take place in April 2010, providing a single overview of the SUPERGEN programme as a whole. UK-SHEC was represented on the day by Dr Tim Mays (Operations Director, University of Bath), Prof Rex Harris (University of Birmingham) and Prof Paul Ekins (UCL).

The team took a series of four posters with them, representing the breadth of the Consortium's research.
