International Hydrogen Research Showcase 2011

The high profile three-day Showcase will take place from 13 – 15 April 2011 at the University of Birmingham.

The Showcase aims to communicate, discuss, connect and celebrate current hydrogen energy research, via a series of posters and oral presentations from members of UK consortia and invited industry and international speakers. It also aims to look forward to hydrogen playing a key role in a sustainable and secure energy future, both in the UK and internationally

The Showcase will provide international experts with the opportunity to disseminate and share their knowledge and understanding of hydrogen energy. It will feature talks from UK experts and international colleagues from the USA, Canada, Russia, Japan, Korea, Switzerland and France. This will be especially significant for young researchers attending the Showcase who will lead much of this work into the future, and to the public who will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the work.

It is anticipated that the Showcase will assist in further developing innovative national and international sustainable energy research. This includes establishing new links and further developing existing links between hydrogen and sustainable energy researchers, both within the UK and globally. Nationally, the Showcase will help develop ideas leading to a possible UK Hydrogen Energy Programme. Important steps in this direction have already been made during a UK Hydrogen Researchers' Workshop held in Oxford in February 2011.

The event will include a formal evening reception for all attendees, and an open evening session for the public to inform them of current research. This will feature talks, poster presentations and a key note speech to inform members of the public of key areas of national and international research priorities on hydrogen and sustainable energy resources which offer a non-polluting fuel alternative to help minimise the causes and consequences of global climate change.

There will be opportunities at the event to informally discuss future research and to experience hydrogen energy in action, including a demonstration of Birmingham's fleet of hydrogen fuel cell powered cars.

The event has been financially supported by the University of Bath's EPSRC funded Pathways to Impact Award and by the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC). It has been directed by Dr Tim Mays, Operations Manager for the UK Sustainable Hydrogen Energy Consortium (UK-SHEC), at the University of Bath

Further details regarding the programme for the event, including key note speakers are available at the UKERC website:

The International Hydrogen Research Showcase 2011 is being held in collaboration with a number of major publicly funded hydrogen research projects, including: UK Sustainable Hydrogen Energy Consortium (UK-SHEC); SUPERGEN XIV – H-Delivery; the University of Birmingham Doctoral Training Centre in Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and their Applications; and the HySAFER Centre at the University of Ulster.

The event is being backed by the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network.
