Dr Ana Lanham

BEng, PhD

Dr Ana Lanham is a Lecturer in Water Science and Engineering.


Throughout her education and postgraduate studies, Ana has developed a strong background in environmental microbiology and biotechnology in particular in terms of biological wastewater treatment, bio-reactors, bioremediation and biopolymers. During her PhD, she worked in collaboration with Aalborg University and with many Water Utilities.

Her interest in policy and innovation led her to join the European Commission as a Research Fellow of the Joint Research Centre. There she contributed to the implementation of a pilot programme on the Verification of Environmental Technologies (ETV) and in particular in coordinating its Technical Working Groups and chairing the one on Water Treatment and Monitoring Technologies.

Ana holds a 5-year BEng degree in Biological Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon (Universidade Técnica de Lisboa), Portugal, which included a 6-month research internship at INRA, in Rennes. She was awarded in 2012 a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
