Dr Gan Shermer (nee Niyadurupola)

Dr Shermer has a background in organic chemistry and science communication. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has a particular interest in pedagogic research. As such she has led a number of projects to develop the teaching and learning of chemistry in higher education. Her particular interests are in the transition between school and university and the development of graduate skills in STEM degrees.

She also has an interest in public engagement and leads the Departments outreach activities with schools. For more information about the activities offered to school students, teachers and the general public, please visit the Outreach and Public Activities page.

Development projects in learning and teaching, outreach and public engagement have been funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the National HE STEM programme, the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement, the Goldsmiths Company and the University Teaching Development Fund.
