Dr John Lowe

Profile

I manage the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) facilities in chemistry. The department houses four extremely well-used solution state spectrometers, ranging from 250-500 MHz, and capable of the full range of modern state-of-the-art NMR experiments. As well as being actively involved in many areas of research across the department, particular current interests include:

  • Developing new NMR methodology to characterise porous materials (in collaboration with Prof Sean Rigby, Nottingham)
  • The use of NMR spectroscopy in reaction monitoring – for example in the study of the oxidation of biodiesel (with Dr Chris Chuck, Chemical Engineering)
  • Applications of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy in organometallic chemistry
  • Applications of diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY)

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the use of NMR spectroscopy in chemistry at Bath.
