New Complexes for the Catalysis of Olefin Oligomerisation and Polymerisation
[Inorganic Chemistry, Catalysis, Synthesis]

An about 2/3 industry-funded and1/3 DTA-EPSRC funded PhD project studentship is available in the group of Dr Randolf Köhn, Department of Chemistry, University of Bath, starting October 2008. The project involves the synthesis of new ligands, their complexes and the study of their catalytic activity. Through this work the student will become experienced in air-sensitive inorganic, organometallic and organic synthetic techniques, as well as transition metal catalysis.

As part of this project some time can be spent in the research labs of the industrial partner LyondellBasell – one of the largest polyolefin company in the world. This will give the student the opportunity to work for about 2 weeks per year at the Frankfurt/Hoechst research facility in Germany with additional financial support.

The successful applicant would be expected to have at least a 2(i) degree and should be UK citizen or have a 3 year affiliation with the UK according to EPSRC-DTA eligibility rules.
The studentship will be filled as soon as possible but remains open until a suitable candidate is found. Thus contact me as soon as you are interested.
