Body Fat Assessment

Using skinfold callipers, measures will be taken to assess fat and lean mass. Sessions will last up to 15 minutes, with markings taken across 7 sites on the body which when added together can determine your % body fat. Wear shorts and T-shirts (males), shorts and crop top (females)

Lung function assessment

Spirometry testing to determine an individual’s lung function and estimated lung age. This is done by measuring aspects of breathing such as forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second and peak expiratory flow. Wear comfortable clothes and trainers suitable to exercise in.

Fitness Testing

Individuals have the chance to undertake the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test to gain a measure of their high-intensity aerobic capacity. From this we can then estimate their VO2 max (maximal oxygen uptake). The test takes up to a maximum of 20 minutes and will be completed as a group (10 per group). Wear comfortable clothes and trainers suitable to exercise in.

The step test is a sub-maximal test which assesses aerobic fitness by measuring the rate of recovery following exercise. The test lasts up to five minutes or until exhaustion and heart rate is measured afterwards. Wear comfortable clothes and trainers suitable to exercise in.
