I would like to welcome all new students to the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering. Well done on your recent exam results and I wish you every success in your continuing academic endeavour with us.

Your first few weeks at university are a busy time, both academically and socially, and we have a packed Welcome Week programme planned for you. It is really important that you attend the Department welcome events as you’ll receive information to help you during your first semester, and meet key people in the department.

Before you arrive

You do not need to do any reading before you arrive but the engineers and inquisitive architects might like to try Expedition Workshed out, including a great game called 'Catastrophe'.

The architects and inquisitive engineers might like to find out about the RIBA Stirling Prize 2017 too, and find out about the best buildings of the year. The winner will be announced on the 31 October.

There is no substitute for visiting real buildings and structures, so you might also like to know that Open House London is happening over the weekend of the 16 and 17 September. This annual event gives access to thousands of otherwise inaccessible buildings.

Design Studio equipment

Before you arrive you should make sure you have the necessary equipment for Design Studio. To help you, we’ve created simple packs which you can pre-order, then collect once you are here.
