I would like to welcome all new students to the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Well done on your recent exam achievements; I wish you continued academic success during your time with us.

Your first few weeks at university are an important time, both academically and socially, and we have a busy induction programme planned for you. It is really important to attend the department induction events as you will be given important information to help you during your first semester and you will meet key people in the Department.

Project work

This is a very exciting time to begin studying Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath. In-depth project work has become an even stronger feature of our teaching. In fact, in Year 3 (and also year 4 for MEng students) you will spend the entire second semester purely on project work, working in small groups or individually under the supervision of the Department’s academic staff.

These projects make our graduates particularly attractive to employers as they are designed to closely match the tasks and outputs found in industry. This year students will also benefit from a major investment in new and refurbished student project space undertaken over the summer.

Before you arrive

There are plenty of resources in the Library to have a look at over the summer. There is no pre-arrival reading list so just have a browse if you have some spare time however this is not compulsory. Your academic lecturers will give you details of any books you may need to access during your first couple of weeks.

You will receive an email to confirm that you are able to register online at the beginning of September. Once you have registered online, please check your University of Bath email account for updates and information.

You can do this through Outlook Web App. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

We look forward to meeting you in September.

Dr Adrian Evans, Head of Department
