Our English language requirements
If you apply to study at the University, you need to meet the minimum English language requirements for your course. To make it easier for you to check the qualification level you need, we group our courses in categories A, B, C and D.
Use this page to check which UK-based qualifications you need to apply for Category D courses. If you studied for a qualification based outside the UK, see the Category D English language requirements for international qualifications.
Required levels for Category D courses
|Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)||170 with no less than 165 in all elements|
|Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)||170 with no less than 165 in all elements|

For IELTS, TOEFL IBT and PTE Academic tests, you need to get your qualification within 24 months of starting your course or we will not be able to accept it. For all other English language tests, you need to get your qualification within 30 months of the start of your course.
If you need a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK, you will need to meet the UK Home Office requirements.
As a higher education institution (HEI), we can assess your knowledge of English directly. You will not need to take a separate English test if you meet our standard English language requirements for an undergraduate degree.
Pre-sessional English courses
If you need to improve your English language skills before starting your studies, you may be able to take a pre-sessional course to reach the required level.
