I am the Head of Natural Sciences, with overall responsibility for undergraduate studies within the Natural Sciences degrees, and I would like to welcome you to the Natural Sciences programme and the University of Bath.

Many congratulations on your recent examination achievements. I wish you much further success during your continuing academic career here at Bath and with all the other activities that you can enjoy as part of the University community.

I recognise that moving to university is a major event and, while most students easily adapt, for some, it may be quite challenging. However, I am here to help and support you so please let me know if you have any difficulties and I will do my best to help you through this transitional period. If you wish you can also contact Dr Susan Crennell, Senior Tutor for Natural Sciences, or Dr Albert Bolhuis, Director of Studies for Years 1 and 2 in Natural Sciences.

Your first weeks at university are an important time both academically and socially. We have organised a packed induction week programme for you so that you may familiarise yourself with the Natural Sciences programme, the University and your fellow students.

During Induction week and the weeks that follow there will be various activities and talks where you will be briefed on a number of important matters in the programme. You will have an opportunity to:

  • hear about the facilities that the University offers
  • meet all the Natural Sciences staff
  • meet your personal tutor
  • attend social events

All these are detailed on your induction timetable. Teaching starts on Monday 3 October.

I look forward to meeting you at the end of September.

Dr Paul Snow, Head of Natural Sciences and Director of Teaching
