Numerical Simulation Of Steep Waves Interacting With Bodies

This project is directed towards reducing uncertainties in current design practice concerning the interaction of steep waves with bodies, such as offshore structures. This interaction may lead to extreme loading conditions and cause structural damage. As part of this project, novel finite element mesh generators in two and three dimensions have been developed based on quadtree and octree grids. The meshes can be generated about complex geometries, and adapt at the free surface boundary to follow the moving wave profile.
