Glass structures
Glass is increasingly used in architectural projects to achieve nearly transparent screens. Our work is looking at the use of glass in shell structures and methods for structural connections of glass to glass and glass to primary structural frame.
Work on glass structural systems at Bath includes both structural testing and analysis using finite element techniques.

We have also been involved in the testing of glass floors, and other elements, for both serviceability and post-failure behaviour. The structural behaviour of glass laminates comprising glass and resin interlayers is temperature and time dependent and testing is necessary to establish parameters for calculation.
