Lightweight structures
Overview
Lightweight structures have been an important topic of research at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering since the 1970’s when Professor Ted Happold and his group first began to collaborate with Professor Frei Otto from the University of Stuttgart on research and the design of fabric, cable and shell structures. The research is interdisciplinary and structural, environmental and architectural issues have all been examined.
