Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies

Doctoral Training Centre Summer Showcase 2014

Monday 7 – Wednesday 9 July 2014

This annual event is the main opportunity to discuss and develop collaborations for the forthcoming year, and provides a chance for our industrial and international parters, along with anyone else interested, to catch up with ongoing research in the centre.

General information

Information about last year's Summer Showcase

What is it?

Our annual Summer Showcase focuses on disseminating the latest research in the area of sustainable chemical technologies.

The programme includes presentations from International and Industrial Partners, academics and DTC students. The conference dinner is on Monday evening - all invited!

Who should attend?

This is a valuable opportunity for anyone who wants to learn about the latest developments in sustainable chemical technologies, or to initiate or deepen collaborations in this area.

The goal is to bring together students and academics associated with the DTC, the DTC’s international and industrial partners and various stakeholder groups and professional organisations with an interest in Sustainable Chemical Technologies. Current and new DTC students will be present, with the former presenting some of their early results.

Workshops

Research project and collaborations workshop

All attendees at the Summer Showcase are also invited to participate in a workshop to help define the activities and future projects within our four research themes. Specifically, this workshop will encourage the participation of industrial partners, to pose particular challenges they would like to see addressed through research, and academics, in order to ensure that the themes meet the research interests at Bath. The workshop will run over lunchtime on Tuesday 8 July, 12.30 - 14.30 and lunch will be provided.

To help us to effectively manage this workshop, we would like to ask that you register for this workshop in advance and select the theme you would like to be part of. The four themes for the new CDT are:

The workshop will start with an overview of the four research themes in the new Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), before breaking up into individual sessions for each theme. In each session we will discuss what are the key problems which need to be addressed, what are the theme boundaries/overlaps with other themes, and what thematic activities should take place over the coming year. Activities could include research symposia, more targeted project workshops or placements.

Internship and publishing workshops

We will also be holding two workshops over lunchtime on the Wednesday, aimed primarily at students within the DTC but open to anyone attending the Showcase. These will focus on:

  • Workshop 1: Internship opportunities
  • Workshop 2: An insight into publishing, provided by Chemistry Central

Sign up to one or both of these workshops now. Registration is required if you wish to attend. DTC students are expected to attend at least one of the two workshops.

Getting here

Venue

The Summer Showcase will take place in the East Building at the University of Bath — this is marked on the campus maps.

Parking

Parking is available on campus, and parking permits will be available at the registration desk or in advance, by request. Permits will be required on all days and there is a small “pay and display” fee to be paid. If you wish to have a parking permit sent to you, please send an email, before 17.00 on Wednesday 2 July, to csct@bath.ac.uk with “Summer Showcase — parking permit” in the subject line. The East car park has appropriate Pay & Display machines (see campus map). Alternatively, delegates can use the Pay & Display units situated in the East Car Park at a cost of £1 per hour.

Parking is administered by an external company, that applies the rules very strictly, so please only park in allowed areas, with appropriate permits.

Accommodation

No accommodation has been arranged or block booked (except for international visitors). There are a range of hotels in Bath city centre and some accommodation is available at the university. Delegates should book their own accommodation as required. Bath city centre is compact and most hotels will be within easy walking distance of suitable restaurants or other amenities. The Bath tourism website has useful links to maps, brochures and accommodation.
