20160818_jon_chouler_awardCSCT PhD student Jon Chouler has recently been awarded the 2016 Water Engineering Award from the Worshipful Company of Engineers and International Water Association (IWA).

The award was given to Jon based on his outstanding work in the field of Water Engineering and the presentation of his work at the IWA Young Water Professional Conference earlier this year.

Jon said: "I'm very pleased to have won such a great prize from the Worshipful Company of Engineers, and it's great to be recognised for the hard work I put into my research and the benefits it can bring to the water sector and ultimately the health and well-being of us all."

Jon's research focuses on the use of Microbial Fuel Cell technology to detect toxic compounds in water supplies and monitor water quality. This technology has promising application for determining the amount of organic compounds (known as BOD) in water in real time, and for the rapid detection of pollutants such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals and heavy metals.
