TeamBEST Schools Project

02 April 2012

schools-projectAs well as organising guest speakers to share their expertise with University of Bath students, the Bath Economics Society believes that it’s very important to provide opportunities for the wider community to learn about economics and finance.

The TeamBEST Schools Project provides schools within the local area with interactive and fun economics lessons. Members of the Economics Society, led by Hannah Moran (TeamBEST Vice-President), have taught a wide variety of economics related lessons that are on and off the standard GCSE and A-Level syllabus.

Stand out lessons this term have been on the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and private investment in education. With rising university fees, choosing whether to have higher education has become a harder decision for many. Therefore the TeamBEST teaching team taught that, using methods such as the net present value, students could calculate whether investing in more education is worthwhile.

We are happy that the interactive teaching was effective and well received. Jilly Norton, a teacher at the Royal High School in Bath, said “Thank you so much to you (Hannah Moran) and TeamBEST for such a stimulating day” and one of the pupils agreed that it was “fascinating and informative”.

The TeamBEST Committee 2011/12 would like to thank the schools that have taken part as well as the volunteers from the society who gave up their time to plan and give the lessons.
