Profile
John Cullis spent three years as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Social and Economic Research in the University of York after completing a master's degree at the University of Leeds in 1971. At York he mainly worked with Professor Tony Culyer and the late Professor Jack Wiseman picking up his long standing interest in Public Sector and Human Resource Economics.
Since 1974 he has worked at the University of Bath and over the years has taught an extremely wide variety of economics courses. His particular interest is microeconomics and this he has taught at every level over the years.
His main publications have been in the area of Health Economics and Public Sector Economics, in collaboration with Professor Philip Jones.
Research interests
- Health economics, especially the economic interpretation of waiting lists and the use of cost benefit analysis.
- Public sector economics, especially the 'public choice' approach and its limitations.
- Economic psychology, especially the treatment of topics such as altruism and conformity to social norms and differences between an economic and psychological approach.
