Dissertation supervision
Interested in supervising MSc dissertations on:
- Economic valuation of the environment (including contingent valuation, choice experiments, hedonic pricing and meta-analysis) - particular expertise in valuing climate change, cultural heritage and marine ecosystems
- Economics of Tourism (particularly tourism-environment linkages)
- Cost-benefit analysis of environmental and urban/peri-urban development policies
Profile
Tim Taylor has been working as a researcher in Environmental Economics in the Department of Economics and International Development with Professor Anil Markandya since 1998.
Tim is also undertaking a PhD researching Environmental Economics with a particular focus on the economics of climate change.
Research interests
Main research interests are environmental valuation and climate change. Tim has assisted in the preparation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Third Assessment Report (published by Cambridge University Press).
An expanding area of research is in the field of tourism and sustainable development, particularly relating to the area of the use of economic instruments for encouraging sustainable tourism.
To date, he has worked on a number of issues relating to the environment including:
- climate change
- rural water supply in India (for DfID)
- forestry in Russia (for the World Bank)
- the valuation of recreational uses of water resources
Teaching
He is the course tutor for the Cost Benefit Analysis Module of the MSc in Integrated Environmental Management (by distance learning). He also occasionally supervises final year projects and Masters theses/projects on environmental topics.
