Placement at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Our students have taken placements at:
- Bank of England
- HSBC Investment Bank
- Morgan Stanley
- Goldman Sachs
- JP Morgan
- Nomura
- UBS
All our economics undergraduate students have the opportunity to undertake a four-year degree with a one-year paid placement during the third year.
Students will receive support from the Faculty Team throughout their placement.

Type of placement
There are placements in a wide range of organisations in the private and public sectors, including:
- Investment and retail banking
- Accountancy, auditing
- Asset management
- Financial research, forecasting
- Financial planning and control
- Sales, marketing, purchasing and logistics
- Political lobbying or working with MPs or MEPs
- International development work
All placement jobs are at a junior professional level. Ideally, you will be given a project or a piece of work that will be your individual responsibility. The job will provide you with a challenge and allow you to use existing skills and develop new ones. Placements may involve an element of routine work as well.
