Trainee teachers test out their skills at local history spots

19 June 2013

Historical monuments have proved good schooling grounds for two sets of trainee teachers studying at the university.

Trainee teacher with student at the roman bathsScience teachers got the chance to test out their ideas for making the subject both enlightening and entertaining when they devised new educational material for the Roman Baths while History PCGE students used Farleigh Hungerford Castle to come up with fun and interesting ways to bring the past to life.

The postgraduates, from the Department of Education, spent time devising activities, worksheets and workshops which they tested out on local pupils who played guinea pig for the day.

“It’s the first year we’ve organised an event like this and I hope it will be the first of many to come. We want our trainees to be as active as possible and this event was a good chance to take history out of the classroom and bring it to life and learn about how to run a school trip,” said Teaching Fellow Alistair Paul.
