Profile

I am currently the Director of Studies for the PhD in Education, and I supervise a number of PhD, EdD, and MA Education students in the Department of Education undertaking research in TESOL and applied linguistics. I teach on the MA TESOL program, specializing in teaching English as an international language.
I have been teaching in various higher education programmes for nearly two decades in Australia and Japan. Prior to taking up a position at Bath in January 2016, I taught for 11 years at Sophia University in Tokyo, where I was director of the core program in the Faculty of Liberal Arts, and also taught in the Graduate School of Languages and Linguistics. In addition to my experience in Japan, I taught for more than 4 years at the University of Sydney in the Faculty of Education (MEd TESOL, MTeach), The Learning Centre, and the Centre for English Teaching. I spent one semester in 2002-2003 at Makarere University in Uganda as a recipient of a Rotary Grant for University Teachers. I had a sabbatical year at Trinity College Dublin 2014-2015.
I am the Book Reviews Editor for System.
