Profile

Prior to joining the University of Bath in September 2014 I had taught International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Economics for 25 years at the International School of London, and Copenhagen International School.

I was awarded my PhD from the University of Southampton in 2003, examining the common characteristics of international schools, as shown by their public relations activity. My initial research interest involved school organizational culture and school marketization.

My subsequent research interest has been the growth and development of International Education in its international schooling context. I have written extensively about the growth and development of international schools and international curricula such as the IBDP, IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

My current research revolves around controversies and emerging trends concerning international schooling such as the decline of the IBDP in Britain, and the paleo-conservative attack on the IB in America. I am also interested in emerging forms of international schooling such as the growth of British-style education overseas, and the growing attraction of the field by for-profit companies.

Research interests

  • The growth and development of International Baccalaureate
  • The growth  of international curricula
  • The emerging controversies and trends in international schooling
  • The organizational culture of international schools
