Effective Writing for Native Speakers of English (EL10270)

This unit is designed to give English language support to home students. It will help you to develop your general academic writing skills, particularly essay writing, by learning about structuring essays, synthesising information from other sources, academic style, grammatical accuracy, punctuation etc.

Aims and Content

The aim of this unit is to develop native speaker students’ general academic writing skills, particularly essay writing. This should help you raise the standard of your degree course work.

Timetable

The unit consists of weekly classes of 1 ½ hours each, currently timetabled at 11.15am on Tuesdays for Humanities students, and 2.15pm on Wednesdays for Science students. This year, we’ve also added an evening class for all students, on Mondays at 6.15pm. If you would like to take this unit, but are not available at these times, then please send us an application form telling us when you are available and we’ll see if we can offer alternative times.

Assessment and credits

This course is assessed entirely by course work during the course. It is open to undergraduates and postgraduates. Students will receive 3 credits on successful completion of the course.
