British History and Literature Units for visiting and exchange students
British History and Literature units are only available to Exchange and Visiting Students (not Visiting Scholars ).
Those registered in the POLIS department may take up to 2 units on British History and 2 units on British Literature per semester. Those registered in other departments/schools may take 1 or 2 units per semester in total if their department/school permits.
If the units are oversubscribed, priority will be given to students for whom these subjects are integral to their home institution degree programme.
Semester 1:
- EL10500 – Britain’s International History: from the Romans to the Treaty of Rome Semester 1
- EL10683 – Modern British Society: government, citizenship and culture Semester 1
- EL10501 – Shakespeare Semester 1
- EL10502 – Writers of Bath and the West Country Semester 1
Semester 2:
- EL10499 – British History and Society Semester 2
- EL10684 – Modern British Society: Social Institutions Semester 2
- EL10503 – English literature – 19th century literature Semester 2
- EL10504 – Contemporary literature & film of the British Isles Semester 2
- Read through the unit descriptions and make your choice for semester 1 (you can apply for semester 2 units from December).
- Fill in and send the online application form. If you cannot apply online before you come to the university, you will be able to apply during your Exchange & Visiting Student welcome talk.
- After completing your application, you will receive an email confirming your choice and giving you the classroom details by midday on the Friday before classes start.
- If you need to change your application after you have submitted it, or think you have made a mistake, please email in-sessional@bath.ac.uk, giving your student number and the changes that you need to make.
- Classes begin the first week of each semester.
