Student life
Many of our future students want to know what their daily life will be like if they choose to study on our Pre-sessional programme. We asked our current Pre-sessional students to write about a typical day on their course, and here are two of their contributions.
My typical daily life
Rie Iwama, Pre-sessional student applying for MSc Sustainability and Management

“Social activities give me a great opportunity to learn more about British culture and speak English!”
I usually wake up at 6 a.m. and then start preparing to go to the university. After that, I normally do self-study for about 30 minutes. During that time, I tend to focus on reading and listening the topics that I’m interested in.This is except for the period I'm struggling to do my assignments! Then, I leave for the campus and go to the library to do my homework. This is my favourite habit on weekdays because I can focus on study in the morning better than in the evening.
There are two classes a day and all the classes are very interesting and useful for me. Because all the teachers and classmates are very kind, friendly and helpful, I enjoy attending the classes every day. I like doing homework even though I sometimes struggle with it.
We have a break for about two hours between the morning class and afternoon class. During that time, after having lunch, I usually do homework or have a tutorial with my teacher once a week. I always enjoy the tutorial because I have the chance to talk about everything I’d like to do.
After classes, I go to the library, go home, or join the social programme. I like to join the social activities as much as I can because it gives me a great opportunity to learn about British culture and speak English! The evening is the most relaxing time for me. I usually cook dinner and then enjoy listening to music or watching TV on the BBC. Again, this is except for the period when I'm struggling to do my assignments!
This is my typical study day!

“Every teacher always considers what and how we can improve our English and what we want to learn in English”
My typical study day is very regular and simple. I often get up around 8:00am and walk to the bus station with my classmate to take a bus to go to the university. During that time, we often talk about last night and discuss university life. It is a good way to practise our English speaking. And then I usually eat my breakfast and lunch at school, and sometimes I will bring some fruit and food as well. After our class, I go to library to do my homework, and sometimes I go home take a rest and then do my revision of the whole day's lessons and watch a video or read some news.
Moreover, I feel my lessons every day are very enjoyable and useful. I am willing to speak and share my ideas with my teachers and classmates. From these diverse lessons, I can learn many different aspects of English such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and writing skills and so on. Every teacher is very helpful and kind to teach and help us. They always consider what and how we can improve our English and what we want to learn in English.
By the way, I also like to attend the social programme. It is a good opportunity to learn about the culture of our new life and to improve our speaking as well with the teachers and different nationality friends.
