About the English Language Centre

The mission of the English Language Centre is to be a first class resource for the delivery of English language teaching for the University.

Core roles

The ELC’s core roles are:

  1. to provide support teaching in English for Academic purposes (EAP) to the University’s international undergraduate and postgraduate students to enable them to complete their academic studies.
  2. to provide on request by the University’s departments language training programmes targeting specific needs.
  3. to provide staff and students in all departments with advice and guidance in all matters relating to the testing of English language proficiency.

Non core roles:

The ELC’s non core roles are:

  1. to develop and deliver EAP programmes to provide an income stream for the University.
  2. to develop and deliver EFL programmes to contribute to the income stream of the University.
  3. to deliver in partnership with departments degree and non degree programmes related to the English language and English language teaching.
  4. to develop teaching and testing extension activities which contribute to the income stream of the University.
  5. to work with the International Office to develop new markets.
