Proplebeia abdita 1

This movie shows a MicroCT scan of an ancient bee species trapped in amber. The previously undescribed species (Proplebeia abdita) could not be visualised by any other method without damaging it. It is thought to be 20 million years old and is now kept at the Museum of Natural History, London.

Proplebeia abdita 2

This movie of Proplebeia abdita includes morphological information (including details of brain structures) that cannot be visualised using any other methods without damaging the specimen. The MicroCT scans were performed at ELLETRA synchrotron facilities in Trieste, Italy.
