Appointment of a Visiting Professor – John Scott
The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering is very pleased to appoint John Scott as a Visiting Professor within the Faculty of Engineering & Design. John Scott is the Technical Director for Ofgem, the British gas and electricity regulatory body. His present responsibilities include security of energy supplies (Joint Chairman of JESS monitoring group), distributed generation (Ofgem/DTI national co-ordinating group), and engineering innovation in the electricity distribution companies.
John's previous role was Director of Engineering for National Grid Company in the UK. He is a Fellow of the IET, chairs the IET’s Professional Network Executive (Power Systems & Equipment) and is a member of the IET’s Energy Sector Panel. He is also vice chair of the European Commission Technology Platform developing an industry vision and innovation programme for future electricity networks. His appointment at Bath will very significantly enhance Bath’s position within the energy fraternity both in the UK and Europe.
His role will be to give advice on the future strategic planning of the Centre for Sustainable Power Distribution (CSPD) both in research and teaching. With his vast experience and international eminence in the field, his appointment is thus a significant step forward towards the establishment of the CSPD as a leading European University Centre in the area of sustainable energy and power distribution research.
