Andrew Bacon wins first prize in the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) Lunar Rover Design Competition
Undergraduate Andrew Bacon, who is currently studying
for a degree in Electronics with Space Science & Technology at Bath, has been named as the
Phase 1 winner of the UKSC/SEDSIC (United Kingdom Space Conference/
SEDS International Conference)
Rover Design Competition.
The brief for this competition was to provide a design concept for a small (<15 kg) lunar rover that could aid a human lunar mission. Andrew's design concept was for a spherical rover that would jump to a height of 30 m and cover a distance of 120 m during each jump. During the jump the rover would survey the lunar terrain using a lidar (laser ranging) system. You can watch Andrew's presentation video here.
We congratulate Andrew on this, and wish him well in his studies at Bath and in his future career.
