Undergraduate awarded prestigious summer placement at the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO)

We congratulate undergraduate student Talini Pinto Jayawardena (MEng, Electronics with Space Science and Technology) who  has been offered an Anglo-Australian Observatory Student Fellowship for the coming summer. Only three or four of these prestigious Fellowships are offered to students of any nationality each summer, and they are typically ten times over subscribed.

The Fellowship provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to work in Astrophysics, Applied Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or related subjects  at the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) on research projects under individual supervision. Talini has been offered two projects.  One is on the characterisation of micro-lens arrays for applications in astronomy and the other on Starbugs, a robotic positioning system of payloads. She will be working on one of these, from June to September, at the head office of the AAO in New South Wales in Australia.
