Department welcomes Dr Simon Le Blond
The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering is delighted to
welcome a new member of academic staff, Dr Simon Le Blond.
Dr Le Blond completed his PhD study at the University of Bath and has since worked for
Toshiba Research Europe Ltd. He now returns to the University as a lecturer in power and energy
systems and joins the
Centre for Sustainable Power Distribution (CSPD).
His research interests include power system protection, power system modelling and
simulation, integration of renewable generation, smart grids and building energy management. His
research focuses mainly on the application of artificial intelligence to these areas.
In his new role, Dr Le Blond hopes to build on past research using real time digital
simulation to develop and validate novel protection algorithms, along with investigating genetic
optimisation for the use of multiple energy carriers in buildings.
Dr Le Blond said: “It’s really nice to be welcomed back to the department where I studied and
see so many familiar friendly faces. I am looking forward equally to working with colleagues old
and new, through teaching and research.”
Outside of work, his interests are cycling, music, guitar and bass. He is an experienced
musician and regularly plays with a Jimi Hendrix cover band.
