Dr Paul Leonard

Profile

Dr Leonard studied for his undergraduate degree at Aberdeen University. He then moved to Imperial College London, where he did his PhD. He joined the University of Bath in 1984 as a research officer and is now a senior lecturer.

Research

Dr Leonard has been involved in the development of finite element code for modelling electromagnetic devices since computers became powerful enough to solve real problems.

His contributions to the field include formulations that allow the efficient modelling of complete systems (rotating machines coupled to circuit models). A more recent interest is computational intelligence, in particular using genetic algorithms for the evolution of neural networks.
