Dr Ben Metcalfe



Dr Ben Metcalfe was an RB & SE Whorrod scholar as well as the B Nicholson scholar at the University of Bath. He has worked as a consultant engineer on many low-power signal processing projects and has been awarded multiple patents in this area. He is a member of both the IET and the IEEE. Ben's research interests lie in areas of biomedical signal processing and microelectronics. Potential PhD students interested in these areas should contact Ben directly.

Current projects include:

  • The PRIME project (Police Robot for Inspection and Mapping of Evidence) aims to create an integrated and automated sensing platform that will perform search and rescue style analysis of marine environments. This project is jointly funded by the Metropolitan Police and EPSRC.
  • A second project links with our industrial partner – GSK. This project aims to further advance our neural recording abilities by providing state of the art biological models and experimental facilities, as part of the bioelectronics initiative.
