Dr Nathan Smith
PhD, MPhil, MEng, MA (Cantab)
Profile
Dr Smith studied at the University of Cambridge, and has since worked at the University of Kent and the University of Bath.
Research
Dr Smith is interested in the mathematical aspects of data assimilation and inverse problems, for example regularisation and learning. A key focus is on the use of GNSS data to image the upper atmosphere.
Wider interests include information theory and pattern recognition (e.g. speech/image classification). At Bath, he has worked on ionospheric applications and also in medical imaging (e.g. SPECT and X-ray CT).
He was formerly part of the Bath Institute for Complex Systems in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath.
