Signal & Image Processing
Staff in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering have been working on leading edge signal, image and video processing algorithms over a number of years. Work in within the department on Biometric Imaging, including a novel Human Iris Coding Technique has attracted considerable interest for identity verification.
Earlier work in the department included the Bath Fractal Transform, and the Implicit Fractal Transform, both of which gave improved fidelity at lower computational cost than previous fractal methods. This was followed by the innovative use of other competing technologies, the Discrete Cosine Transform and Discrete Wavelet Transform.
This work has now been taken up industrially by Smart Sensors Ltd. Iris images are also available at irisbase.com.
