Bobsleigh start track

Engineers from the Department of Engineering and Applied Science have redesigned the braking system on the Bobsleigh start track at the University of Bath. Nick Gathercole from SMS Consultants has collaborated closely with Mike Callan and staff from the Department of Sports and Reaction on this exciting and innovative project.

The track is used by the GB Olympic Bobsleigh Team and Kristan Bromley, the first British man to win a winter sport World Cup series when he took the Skeleton title in Germany in February 2004. Kristan is a Research Officer in the Department.


The 125m English Institute of Sport push start track, opened at the University of Bath campus in February 2002,
