Dr Marcel Steward

Profile

Dr Marcel Steward is tutor of the  Environmental Risk Management unit for the MSc in Integrated Environmental Management (by distance learning).

Marcel has a BSc in Geology  from University College London and a Doctorate from the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society (UK) and a member of the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA).

Marcel was one of the first environmental consultants and the first specialist environmental risk and insurance advisors outside of the United States. He is currently Director of Environmental Practice at Market Insurance Brokers Limited (MIB), a Lloyd’s reinsurance broker.

Marcel has consulted on a wide range of environmental issues for UK and international companies and institutions in both the private and public sector, contributing to the growth of the international environmental insurance and risk management markets and their integration with developing Environmental Legislation. He has worked closely with various international governmental bodies and, specifically in the UK, has led business delegations from the UK to India, Egypt, and Libya.

Marcel is the author of an Environmental Risk Management Text book for the Institute of Risk Management (IRM ) and is lead examiner for the IRM Diploma in Risk Management. As of January 2010, Marcel became elected as a freeman of the Livery Company of World Traders. He is expected to become a Liveryman of the Company and a Freeman of the City of London later this year.
